Port Byron Awarded 2022-2023 NYSPHSAA Sportsmanship Banner Award

Port Byron is proud to receive the NYSPHAA Sportsmanship Promotion Banner Award for the 2022-2023 school year. This recognition reflects the district’s unwavering commitment to fostering a positive, respectful athletic environment for its student-athletes, coaches, and community members.

The award is presented to schools in New York State who have developed proactive approaches in keeping sportsmanship in the forefront.  A total of 263 schools submitted the Sportsmanship Promotion Survey to NYSPHSAA and 49 schools were chosen by their sections as plaque winners.

Port Byron is one of only four schools selected as a banner award winner.

“A primary goal for coaches is to help young student-athletes develop into happy, productive, and well-adjusted members of society. Good sportsmanship in the face of adversity teaches resilience and is a characteristic that will benefit these young student-athletes as they face their own individual challenges in life,” Michael Hermann, Port Byron Assistant Athletic Director said.

More details will be available in the coming weeks regarding the banner presentation.

“We're proud to be recognized for the efforts of our coaches to promote good sportsmanship, and for the good sportsmanship displayed by our athletes.” Hermann said.
